📸 What You'll Do

  • Instruct patients regarding procedures and proper positioning to produce high-quality mammography images.
  • Review and record pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data for optimal diagnostic results.
  • Understand and practice ALARA principles of radiation protection, including the use and exchange of personal dosimeters.
  • Select proper technical factors as recommended by Hologic, utilizing appropriate paddles.
  • Check equipment and accessories to ensure they are in proper operating condition.
  • Ensure proper patient identification for images and completeness of requisition used for billing.
  • Operate mammography equipment according to specific procedures to produce images of optimal quality.
  • Assist physicians in specialized examinations such as pre-operative needle localization and large core stereotactic breast biopsy.
  • Maintain work area and department in a clean and orderly condition, including cleaning rooms after each examination.
  • Assist in daily Quality Control testing of equipment to meet Federal Registry requirements.

Qualifications

  • Two years of formal training in an accredited School of Radiologic Technology plus registration through the American Registry of Radiology Technology in Mammography.
  • Must maintain requirements as outlined by the Mammography Quality Standards Act and the American College of Radiology.
  • Current and valid license from the Department of Health to practice in the State of Rhode Island.
  • Must hold a current CPR certification from AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers.
  • Possess analytical skills to determine the best method of obtaining desired results.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns.
  • Between one and three months of orientation and on-the-job training.
